18th Athens Book Bazar Kotzia Square.

18th Athens book bazaar on Kotzia square. The annual book bazaar in Athens gathers thousands of book lovers. Especially the recent years with the economic crisis is a very popular venue.

Many publisher offer their books at very low prizes. People buy tens of books each because they find many bargains. I have to say that the late publications are not included and most of the books had been published more than three years before. Also the most prominent publisher don’t participate every year and they create they own book bazaars.

Nevertheless the event lasts two to three weeks from morning until late night. The book titles are changed during that period and buyers visits the bazaar again and again.

It is nearly impossible not to find an interesting book with a good price. Of course all the books are in the greek languages but is a good experience for a tourist to visit the bazaar.

The only bad thing is that during the period of the bazaar it rains often and that deteriorates the quality of the books. The floor is just the slab stones of the square and water is passing freely. However what is important is the content of books.

The entrance of the Athens book bazaar.
The pavilion is constructed in L shape.
Thousands of books are waiting buyers.
Watch in the middle some visitors are so enthusiastic that are provided with supermarket trolleys. Most of books are literarily and hobby ones and less scientific.

This year the pavilion had windows and that helped the atmosphere a lot.
Some people visit the bazaar to buy, some to watch and some just to shoot photos!

The pavilion was really lengthy and wide this years. The greek economic crisis brought thousands of book readers who can’t afford the traditionally expensive greek books.
